Semana 1 - Hermana Dangl breaks the law

Rachel's 20th birthday is this Friday, February 28th. Let's flood her email with lots of birthday wishes!  Thanks for your support!  She can read the emails during the week, but can only respond on Wednesday, which is her Pday while in the MTC.

¡Hola familia y amigos!

Buckle up, because this week has been a goooood one! I arrived in Mexico City last Tuesday night and within the first 5 minutes of being in Mexico, I had already broken the law (whoops). I traveled with 7 other missionaries from Dallas and we decided to take a picture to document our arrival in Mexico after we got through customs. Got a cute pic, but a not so cute reprimanding from the airport security who told me it was illegal to take pictures and had to watch me delete the picture. Well, ya live and learn :)

That night I met my companion, Hermana Neff from Park City, Utah. She's the coolest person ever and we are THE power team. I might've scared her off a bit when I told her we were probably related, but I WAS RIGHT. We pulled out the Family Tree app found out we are 5th cousins LOL what are the odds?? Shout out to John Neff II (our great, great, great, great grandpa). Also we share that PNB (Pure Neff Blood) so need I say more? She also brought a huge bag of scotcheroos, which was something I really wanted before I left, but didn't get, so it's safe to say that God is really looking out for me.

On my first day, I met Esteban (a cook at the cafeteria who somehow knows my mom, which doesn't surprise me because she knows everyone) and he takes a picture everyday of me with my food so by day one I already had an "in" here at the CCM.

After about 13 hours of traveling, we finally made it to the CCM (Mexico Missionary Training Center) and they greeted us with Costco pizza. We were given our name tags and I can tell you that putting on that tag every day, knowing that I am a representative of Christ, is the most rewarding and best feeling ever. Just for our first week, we had white dots on our tags that let everyone know we were new and that they could bully us. Just kiddinggg! Every person that walked by would say "Bienvenidos" and they were all super welcoming.

Every day we have classes along with time to study, go to the gym, have meetings, and do activities and we do all this with a group called our district. We have 3 girl and 3 boy companionships and we work super hard, but also have almost a little too much fun sometimes.

Sunday woo! I led the music (I was channeling my inner Grandma Kettley) and it was quite the experience. I was warned beforehand that it gets super chaotic because half of our ward are people from Haiti learning to speak French and the other half speak Spanish but even though it sounded interesting, the spirit was really there.

Another thing, I joined choir and for the first time ever it was 100% my choice! We sang "Nos Recocijamos" at our Sunday night devotional and totally crushed it.

This past week has been a crazy adjustment but, life is great! The weather is great. The people are great. The missionary life is great. Spanish classes until 9pm are sometimes great. And even the sweet sounds of music blasting, sirens, and gunshots/fireworks serenading me to sleep is great but most of all, GOD IS GREAT! God loves and cares so much about each and everyone of you, so remember that!!
